Note, KT7A is what I have. Any bootable drives on ide0 or ide1 will cause
the Promise PCI card to fail to boot, regardless of BIOS settings. My
BIOS is probably current - I've not flashed it in about a year now, but
then again it's a 2+ year old board - probably there have not been any
more updates since then.

Maybe this is a non-issue for me. Since the new drive has 160 GB, I plan to remove the other HDs. Maybe establish another sandbox environment or use one on my Mac to try a PPC Linux on a separate disk.

I do not know if ide2 or 3 (the Highpoint controller) have the same
limitation regarding bootability since I do not have a Highpoint chip.

I did not buy the board for the RAID capabilities. It was a door buster at Fry's Electronic. So, in the BIOS, I set it to disable the RAID functionality.

So, if I have only the 160 GB HD on either ide0 or the PCI add-on card, it should increase the likelihood that I will be able to boot from the 160 GB HD.
