Speaking of which, check out QuakeForge, > http://www.quakeforge.org/, if you're looking for a free 3d engine.
As the co-creator of QuakeForge, STAY AWAY. The code is a nightmare, the engine is dog slow, and for some reason the people who are still working on it seem to think that Quake should require about 20 megs of disk space, and that's just the engine itself. Somehow they managed to take a 1.4 meg ELF binary and make some 35 individual libraries out of it.. They didn't really add all that much to the game either. They have a 32 bit software renderer, which is nice if you want 1996-era block soup in lots of colors.. And they didn't even write that - it was written by Forest Hale, who lives over in Horton. There are other engines out there, and for the most part they work much better. DarkPlaces (Forest's netquake engine) is the most advanced engine anyone has, period. Project: Twilight also is pretty nifty and provides both Quake and QuakeWorld. DarkPlaces is more suited to use in a non-Quake project, though. Both are available at http://icculus.org/twilight/ (though you will have to excuse the mess that is our webspace, I really do need to finish up the beta website since the primary site no longer exists...) - -- Joseph Carter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> A man wrapped up in himself makes a very small package. <Crow-> im fcucking druk * Knghtbrd makes sure to log everything Crow- says tonight ... <MrBump> heheh <MrBump> He said he'd marry me! damnit!! <Crow-> dude no way <Knghtbrd> MrBump - he's not THAT drunk <MrBump> Knghtbrd: I'm crushed :o) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) Comment: 1024D/20F62261F1857A3E79FC44F98FF7D7A3DCF9DAB3 iEYEARECAAYFAj8LI8sACgkQj/fXo9z52rP2RwCgosef1KFkssm1lozm1Wl45VgG i+cAoK1WjFEmD7mikRVm3W3rxEVoIXV5 =Bjcy -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ EuG-LUG mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mailman.efn.org/cgi-bin/listinfo/eug-lug
