As far as the technician info goes, just have him give you the URL, and then you will go to that URL and enter your customer number and temp pw, which they'll give you at install time. Thats all you'll need. (Durn if I didn't do this a month ago and have managed to lose the URL). WRT platforms, etc., I have successfully used intel - win and openbsd, os x, and sparc solaris, but have now settled in behind a cheap netgear ap/cable router ($80 at Circuit City plus $40 rebate).
