Shutdown your machine, unplug your PS/2 mouse and plug in a USB mouse. Upon startup, launch 'X' and watch in puke because it can't find your pointing device. :) Then fire up lynx, hit google, and find the settings you need for a USB mouse. Edit your XF86Config and you're a happy camper. So... in linux you can have problems but solutions are more fun to find.
