For doing what? Reading .jpg's? Writing .jpg's? What do you consider acceptable? I use cdrecord to write CDs. I think it works for DVDs also, but since I don't have a writer, I can't test it. http://www.peak.org/~abrown/HOWTO-cdrw-write.html I use display or gimp to view them. But I'm not doing slide shows. Linux can use many file systems, but the most common are ext2, ext3, and reiserfs (in my opinion).
