% #these are a mildly expanded set of notes from a chat at tonights EUGLUG
clinic
% #please treat this as a working doc to be expanded upon
% How to make the Euglug website more useful to us, and to the community at
large.
% Who should be able to add stuff to the website:
% Any member of euglug, there should be no needless chokepoints.
A) I agree that any euglug member should post things.
however, I think that supporting "roles" and allowing
some parts to be limited posting for some roles and other
parts to be wider posting is a win.
B) If your goal is to grow the effectiveness of Eug-Lug,
Then the website has an audience which is beyond
eug-lug members. It includes non-eug-lug people in
Lane county, other LUG members in other cities,
and linux newbie users around the world.
So design with the wider audiences in mind.

% What should be available on the euglug.org site:
% 1. Event Calendar
% w/ regular update to mailing list
% 2. Book Reviews
% 3. Mailing List Archives
% Mailman Admin, Site navigation on archive pages, Google Search
% 4. RSS feeds for events and for new contents.
% rss1.0 or Atom, should be generated automagically for all new content
% 5. Linkage to docs, howtos, ancillary materiel
6. project management interfaces for projects that are being done by euglug
7. linux evangelist material for use by euglug members to spread the linux
word
8. Links to other LUGs like mwvlug, salemlug, bendlug, pdxlug, plug
9. links to eug-lug sponsors who provide space, help, value
% Where http://euglug.org
What kind of SLA do you expect for euglug.org?
% When should the revised site be available: february
The revised site infrastructure could be done by february, but the
site itself is a work in progress and that suggests a need
for having a wider set of goals for specific steps beyond, just getting
the new site infrastructure up.
Who is going to do what?
% Why should we update a website that works fine and looks good:
% It doesn't serve as an activating catalyst to grow the community.
And because moving from the current site to a high level CMS can
provide tools to expand the effectiveness of Euglug in what you want to do.
% Other topics discussed were, advertising (pros/cons); domain control (kbob)
% tagging (del.icio.us,technorati,flickr, low usage of and interest in
% on part of avg. euglugger), drupal, RubyOnRails, TurboGears, when
% automated announcements feel spammish or don't.
% Other relevant topics:
% drupal.org
I am a drupal fan, so +1 for drupal
I am also a group process fan, so +1 for getting explicit about
process and goals.
