Are you referring to USB 2.0? Just because the device list shows 2.0 Enhanced does not mean it is at every USB port. True? How do you test for 2.0; plug in a digital camera or thumb drive and a stop watch?

Might make a difference whether you use the front-panel or back-panel USB ports -- echoing what Mr. O said, I've seen strange issues with USB on the Via mobo's as well; some to the point where touching the front-panel USB port (say, beginning to insert a thumbdrive or cable!) hard-rebooted the system. Thought something was not grounded correctly, but have seen that on a number of systems, along with non-reboot problems of usability. I'm sure not all are doomed, though :)

It is Via, things are better now; backed up and restored the RAID from
the External USB HDD. I noted that in deleting the music files one
was corrupted; might have been file indigestion. I'll run chkdsk, but
this External is the Maxtor 30 GB w/ bootup problems. It has been
    working well with other systems.

Oops! Spoke too soon. System reboot while playing a DVD!

This DVD combo has been flaky in other systems and I'm concerned
    about
that crucial memory. On the whole I think things will be
    ok. I've got
to get some benchmarking utility in here. 3DMark2000, is that a good
one for XP or what are you using?
