A lot of posts...had to see what all the traffic was about.
I fix I can tell you that no other "free for non-commercial use"
anti-virus software is less troublesome than AVG. Sorry but I've
played with NOD32, Kapersky, AntiVir, Panda, McCrappy, Norton,
ClamAV, and others.

I second Mr. O's observation. For a long while I thought AVG wasn't doing anything, because its presence on the desktop was so light, but every once and a while I go slumming...its catching viruses.

I used McCrappy and Norton, these usage experiences are dated and there is always windows to blame, but I wasn't impressed.

A friend uses NOD32, on advice from their friend at SUN and after catching the Code Red worm; I never see that software in the top ten. Kapersky, with its hourly updates is supposed to be the best, but I don't know anyone using it.

R-G business this morning says MS is releasing a patch for - "Windows Defender" for Vista - already, its been less than a week!

I've got a machine downstairs screaming that Feb 18 is the end of the world, according to AVG, lets see how long it takes to swap out 7.1 for 7.5.

Brian

P.S. These are all Windows related issues...I just got my wireless working reliably enough to tackle wireless Linux...as in chess: Position is everything in wireless!!!
