FWIW, if you are building a new workstation look at the
'executive' series boards or 'extreme' series (975XBX is what I
have). Many of the executive series have onboard graphics with
an available 16x PCIe slot for a vide card. 

The only somewhat current issue with the 965 family is the IDE
chipset. You need to install with at least a 2.6.18 or 19 kernel
if you are using an IDE optical drive. Still need to check that
with a SATA optical.  No idea why that was done but it is a
'feature' of the ICH8 chipset. The 975XBX uses the ICH7 so the
IDE bus is still native.
