I'm down with a bad cold, full of aspirin, liquids, and over-the-counter cold symptom relievers that have left me brainless. My plan for coping called for lots of naps with all hope of getting any work done abandoned during my waking hours, which would be spent playing Shishen-Sho on my computer. But Household Management has shot down that plan, informing me that if I'm well enough to play Shishen-Sho, I'm well enough to get the computer to talk to her HP Photosmart m305 camera so she can unload the camera onto my hard drive. My pleas that I couldn't do that without a functioning brain, but was overruled. So I need some assistance so I can get back to my plan for surviving the cold.
I've got fully patched Mepis 6.5 SMP (derived from Kubuntu Dapper) running, sort of, on a new Intel D946GZIS motherboard and a dual core processor. My boot log is full of error messages, principally having to do with a need to persuade Intel to do a better job with its BIOS and the 915 screen resolution driver being non-functional. But the immediate problem is that the system does not autodetect the camera, the manual install includes no driver for the particular camera, and I can't find one for it. That wasn't a problem with Mepis when I was still running an i586 processor. The upshot is that I would really appreciate a suggestion for where to start working around this problem. If I can get this camera thing solved, then I can return to my recovery plan and deal with the other problems later. Any suggestions? Best regards, Marbux
