Thanks, but I've got it and its supporting libraries installed (and reinstalled). No joy with the HP Photosmart m305; no driver included, although I even tried the preceding and next Photosmart version number drivers. The maddening is that when I was running the i586 version of Mepis, it automatically detected the same camera and configured for it, so I have no idea of which driver it actually used. I suspect my big mistake was that Intel D946GZIS motherboard and chipset. The old motherboard died so I was in a hurry and didn't check thoroughly enough on Linux support. Having done the research later, I learned that Ubuntu Dapper and derivatives have lots of problems with that motherboard, chipset, and BIOS, although camera support issues weren't among the relevant posts I found.
