Open the router box.
Take out the router.
Turn off the Comcast modem.
Unplug the Comcast modem from your computer.
Plug the end into the WAN port of your new router.
Plug in the router.
Turn on the Comcast modem.
Turn on the router.
Wait 5 minutes.
Plug your old computer into one of the router ports.
Plug the new computer into another port.
Turn on old computer. Verify internet access.
If no access, read the router instructions (hah hah).
If you do have access, turn on new computer. Verify internet access.
If no access, I give up.

Regards, Jim

Hi, Jim,

I should have mentioned that I'm plugging the machines into the modem
one at a time, switching back and forth. I've acquired a wireless
router, but wanted to make sure that either machine can connect
directly to the modem before tackling the router. The goal here is to
have a second machine that can swap for the first if it goes down and
in the meantime be used via a wireless connection.

Thanks, Jim. I'm hopeful.

Best regards,

Paul
