I have seen problems with some of the DSL and Cable modems such that they do

Hi, Jim,

I should have mentioned that I'm plugging the machines into the modem
one at a time, switching back and forth. I've acquired a wireless
router, but wanted to make sure that either machine can connect
directly to the modem before tackling the router. The goal here is to
have a second machine that can swap for the first if it goes down and
in the meantime be used via a wireless connection.

Good luck dude!

Thanks, Jim. I'm hopeful.

Best regards,

Have you tried tuning off the comcast modem between machines? - comcast always told me to turn it off for > 1 minute forces the modem to "reset" - YMMV.
On the power up, first the modem, then the computer
