This is something I had researched for the ethernet card. It wants the 8139 Realtek driver that is in 8139too. lsmod says both 8139cp and 3139too are loaded. I haven't looked at what the onboard connector wants. Here is the lsmod output: Module Size Used by nls_iso8859_1 5280 0 nls_cp437 6976 0 vfat 13184 0 fat 59832 1 vfat nls_utf8 2080 0 isofs 36424 0 usb_storage 65952 0 binfmt_misc 10220 1 ppdev 8232 0 snd_emu10k1_synth 7296 0 snd_emux_synth 38560 1 snd_emu10k1_synth snd_seq_virmidi 7008 1 snd_emux_synth snd_seq_midi_emul 8096 1 snd_emux_synth snd_emu10k1 153728 3 snd_emu10k1_synth snd_util_mem 5152 2 snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1 snd_hwdep 9352 2 snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1 snd_via82xx_modem 13804 0 snd_via82xx 28364 2 snd_seq_dummy 3460 0 gameport 13712 1 snd_via82xx snd_ac97_codec 125720 3 snd_emu10k1,snd_via82xx_modem,snd_via82xx ac97_bus 2176 1 snd_ac97_codec snd_pcm_oss 44704 0 snd_mpu401_uart 8480 1 snd_via82xx snd_mixer_oss 18976 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 93160 5 snd_emu10k1,snd_via82xx_modem,snd_via82xx,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss snd_seq_oss 33440 0 snd_seq_midi 8192 0 snd_rawmidi 27360 4 snd_seq_virmidi,snd_emu10k1,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_seq_midi snd_seq_midi_event 8448 3 snd_seq_virmidi,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi snd_seq 60608 9 snd_emux_synth,snd_seq_virmidi,snd_seq_midi_emul,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event iptable_filter 3872 0 snd_timer 26992 3 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm,snd_seq snd_seq_device 8308 8 snd_emu10k1_synth,snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq snd 77096 24 snd_emux_synth,snd_seq_virmidi,snd_emu10k1,snd_hwdep,snd_via82xx_modem,snd_via82xx,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device i2c_viapro 8696 0 ip_tables 21200 1 iptable_filter x_tables 25832 1 ip_tables soundcore 9088 1 snd snd_page_alloc 10928 4 snd_emu10k1,snd_via82xx_modem,snd_via82xx,snd_pcm shpchp 37756 0 amd64_edac_mod 26688 0 edac_core 48876 1 amd64_edac_mod k8temp 5504 0 psmouse 57124 0 serio_raw 6596 0 lp 11908 0 parport 40528 2 ppdev,lp floppy 65192 0 8139too 27360 0 sata_via 12196 0 8139cp 23200 0 mii 6368 2 8139too,8139cp Best regards, Paul > Allen Brown http://brown.armoredpenguin.com/~abrown/ > Every time Bush speaks, an English teacher dies. --- > http://yuumei.deviantart.com > >> On Thu, Nov 19, 2009 at 9:48 PM, Allen Brown <[email protected]> wrote: >>> When the new computer is connected to the router or modem (but not >>> working) what does ifconfig say? >> >> Hi, Allen, >> >> ifconfig gives: >> >> eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:17:31:81:3f:59 >> inet6 addr: fe80::217:31ff:fe81:3f59/64 Scope:Link >> UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 >> RX packets:33 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 >> TX packets:5 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 >> collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 >> RX bytes:6330 (6.3 KB) TX bytes:398 (398.0 B) >> Interrupt:20 Base address:0xe800 >> >> lo Link encap:Local Loopback >> inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 >> inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host >> UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 >> RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 >> TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 >> collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 >> RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) >> >> Best regards, >> >> Paul >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >>> -- >>> Allen Brown  abrown at peak.org >>>  http://brown.armoredpenguin.com/~abrown/ >>>  The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich >>>  as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, >>>  to beg in the streets, and to steal bread. --- Anatole France >>> >>>> On Thu, Nov 19, 2009 at 6:11 PM, Fred James <[email protected]> >>>> wrote: >>>> >>>>> Have you tried tuning off the comcast modem between machines? - >>>>> comcast >>>>> always told me to turn it off for > 1 minute forces the modem to >>>>> "reset" >>>>> - >>>>> YMMV. >>>>> Â  On the power up, first the modem, then the computer >>>> >>>> Hi, Fred, >>>> >>>> My modem doesn't have an on/off switch but has a reset button.
