Hi all,
Is a Subaru Legacy a suitable car for conversion?
It's a 1992 Subaru Legacy MI, 5 speed manual, for sale
with a dead motor at TradeMe (local equivalent of Ebay)
http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction_detail.asp?id=1668157

I want a daily commuter, range up to 100km (~78 miles?)
Charging will not be available anywhere other than home.
Distance to work and back is 40km, but I often go to other
places further away before going home.
Longest distance in any normal day is about 60km.
There are two ways to get to work, one is mostly highway
and the other is winding and slow and would involve more
stops. The height profile of the drive to work is a bit
like this, although of course the hills are not *that* vertical:

Home
    \_____________
                   \ <---- Gorge
                    \_______
                            \ Work

The gorge in the middle is pretty steep, it's the kind of
hill that causes loaded trucks and tankers to crawl.
