No. You don't want to drain either split pack below 50% either, and the energy storage required of the single pack does not have to be greater than that of the pair of split packs (in fact, if you do the math involving Peukert effects, the single pack can be a bit smaller than the pair of split packs), so there is no extra weight to be a problem.
