IMO For the price/performance, the Leaf is quite an EV, and those issues (wind, temperature, etc.) are not a factor in the SF bay area. If I could fit in and drive safely a Leaf EV, I would not need any of that data (you do not need to make it that hard). I also would not rely on the Leaf's guess-o-meter (how many bars) indicator either, but use how many kWh / energy miles were consumed. I will assume you already have your Chargepoint and Blink cards, or will carry a phone and their toll free telephone numbers to enable the EVSE. The portion of the drive that connects to 880/17, goes up and over the (~2000') Santa Cruz Mountains can not be avoided. But, the route you take, either Hwy 101 (fairly flat) or Hwy 280 (lots of wasteful up and down) that connects to Hwy 880/17, will be a factor. There is another question you had that I think is a determining factor of which of those two Hwy's: - How long to recharge once in Santa Cruz? I remember that it was posted that a Leaf driver has made it/driven from SF to Santa Cruz starting @100%SOC, but I can not say that as a fact myself. And even if possible, your pre-2013 model has the wimpy half-powered 3kW charger on-board. Coming into Santa Cruz drained to ~5% SOC would likely take a good 10 hours to recharge on the available (208VAC slower) public level-2 EVSE. I think you need to use the Leaf's level-3 (l3) abilities to shorten the the Santa Cruz level-2 recharge time. [*Note since 99% of the level-3 EVSE in the SF bay area is Blink, a driver might think to look at the Blink map. That could get you into trouble because while it lists the L3 EVSE, it does not have the driver comments like you find on EV Charging finder app/sites like: recargo.com , carstations.com , plugshare.com (I would want to read the comments other drivers have left to know if it would work for me, etc.). So, now your route is set to use Hwy 101, and then connect to Hwy 880/17 to Santa Cruz. That L3 search also confirms there is no L3 EVSE along the coast, it is going to be L2 EVSE while you are in Santa Cruz. I choose one that is free and would seem to allow many hours of charging: http://www.recargo.com/sites/2497 691 Ocean St, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 Assuming you are driving from your home 100%SOC, I plugged in the rest of the addresses into Google Maps to give a route map http://goo.gl/maps/FZaxc The total trip is 71.5 miles, but factoring in the climbing portion will be needed. You would use up 33 miles from your home to the L3 EVSE, it should take less than 10 minutes to charge to 80%SOC (regaining 26.4 miles). Don't wait for a full charge, unplug at 80%SOC, get back on Hwy 101 south, and go on to Santa Cruz. Once in Santa Cruz, and plugged into a L2 EVSE, you have driven ~38.6 miles from the L3 EVSE point, but with the climbing, and regen it may be more like using 50 energy miles used which is well withing your 80%SOC range. Using the Leaf EV's quoted 75 mile range, 50 energy miles used is about 2/3 of the pack capacity, or 2/3 of the 8hours to 80%SOC, or less than 6 hours to 80%SOC. Any time longer spent charging than 6 hours will be at a slower rate, and may not be needed. But if you had concerns, you may want to charge an extra hour. The route home would be in reverse, from Santa Cruz to the L3 EVSE, charge to 80%SOC, unplug and get back on Hwy 101 going north, and plugin when you get home. Qualifier: I have not driven a Leaf, nor taken it on a long trip.
