If your in a situation where the seat belt inertia's have activated then
the EV drive system inertia switch should have tripped and killed power
to the system.

That's probably pretty reliable, so maybe I'm overly cautious, but I prefer
not relying on a mechanical linkage. I like having a breaker under the
driver's seat, reachable from the front. I think some other folks have
mounted them on the center tunnel behind the parking brake lever; that's
even better, as long as you can protect it from the grunge that inevitably
ends up there in a daily driver.
If you do this right, only about 8-10" of high voltage wiring has to be in
the passenger compartment, and most or all of that can (read : should) be
enclosed in a steel box.
Remember that in an emergency your inerta reel seat belt is likely to lock
up. No matter where you put your Yikes Switch, you want to be sure you can
reach and operate the trigger with your seat belt cinched tight.
