For the last 20 years we have mounted the main breaker in our main
control box along with all the other EV related small parts under the hood.
Then a good quality PTO cable to the dash and a nice decal for the red
knob on the cable that says "Emergency Disconnect".
The last couple of years with the HPEV systems I have found the 250 amp
breakers will pop under load on a long hill.
We have now had special Heinamann breakers built without the thermal
breaker so they are basically a remote control switch. I always found
the plastic lever on the Airpax to be brittle material and the Heinamann
ones are much tougher
These have proved over the last couple of years to be a good solution.
Here is a few pic's of the box's we build.

Its nice to see an under-hood that is not a mess of wires and exposed
terminal strips.
I suppose in California that might be OK but in most of Canada and lots
of the US they use salt on the roads so putting parts inside box's is
the only way to keep the corrosion out.

All,
Speaking of where to mount the breaker...
This has been discussed a lot in the past, which is in the archives....
Since you never, ever, never, want the traction wiring in the cabin with
you, the breaker is located under the hood, and for the "Oh SH$@"
emergency cable, I use a heavy duty PTO cable (power take off).
