Perhaps to an antique purist, your mods would not be welcome, but I
think for the DIY conversion folk, any mods for safety are wise.

I have seen Ford Model A and T's in caravans on the highway (probably as
part of a club or group). Driving them in the right lane at 50 mph was
likely their limit (for both safety and ice/drive-train design).

converters have to make the mods that are needed, for whatever their
reason (your case safety, his case, one of them was to keep GM lawyers
off his back).
