Does it seem like something is about to happen (like waiting for the
other shoe to drop)?
Recapping: not too long ago the media 'was' doing their usual tug-of-war
with sales-figure comparisons (uh-oh EVs not-doing so good ...), the
anti-plugin media was spewing their regular 'end-of-the-world because of
EVs' pieces, and the occasional automaker release to the media to
promote their plugin model, ... when it all changed.
There were/are several newswires about how well plugin-hybrid sales are
doing (hence why automakers have been focusing on them). Automakers get
CARB credits for selling plugin-hybrids too.
Not only was the media beginning to chatter that Tesla had something
good, but then the price dropped on several EVs (yay!).
Hey wait! This is the middle of the year, not the end of the year!? What
is the automakers' hurry?
Then the media can not get enough about how the sky is falling because
the resale value of previously bought EVs has dropped. Then, one by one,
reports came in that automakers do not have enough stock to meet demand.
Then Honda says the same thing they did back in the late 1990's when
they had met their EV-plus sales quota to meet CARB regulations. Honda
said that they were not going to sell any more EVs this year because
they did not need to, and put people on a waiting list that might take a
year to receive their EV.
Next, automakers band together in separate groups to R&D to sell fcvs.
fcv pieces mislabeled as Electric Vehicles (fcvs are no more an EV, than
a plugin-hybrid is, each are unique) are now coming through my searches.
Thankfully they are all for production in the future.
...
So, what is going on?
I mean automakers are still pumping pieces to the media on EVs they can
not sell? So who are they trying to impress? (CARB?)
If this were a 'real' business model, it is a bad one.
I think we are going to have make some more changes in our thinking. Not
only because we got our wish: lots of the public driving EVs (we're a
victim of our own success), but we will have to also endue all the
EV-growing-pains as well, ... +more.
Road-taxes, charger-use-fees, and fcvs, Oh My!
