Not so sure about that.  I know someone who gave up on a K2 because it 
consistently overcharged his battery.  He couldn't adjust the finishing 
voltage low enough, and Zivan's distributor simply refused to program it any 
lower.

Others have posted similar experiences here.

IMO, the K2 was a decent low-cost EV charger, but the US distributor didn't 
do it any favors with their stubborn focus on a rolling-boil algorithm.

Widespread experience says the 8v will outlast the 12v.  They can handle 
higher currents.  Also, a given discharge regimen cycles them less deeply.
