I needed to be more specific. I am not putting the new pack in the 1983 Cordia (AKA Pumpkin). That is my old car (that I still drive every day). I decided it wasn't worth the effort and cost to maintain. I bought someone else's conversion which is a much nicer base car and better built. Also, it is a 144V system vs the 120V in the orange car. Both are pretty short range compared to my old Festiva with 16 GC batteries or my Escort with 18 golf cart batteries or my Bug with 36 260AH Thunderskys which could go well over 100 miles. Not all of the cars made it to the EVAlbum, but I have details, pictures, video of all 13 of them. Anyway, I currently have a red 1991 Celica, 144V system, 9" motor, Curtis 1231C, and 12 T1275plus batteries (late 2008 date code). Car is currently being repaired (as I have time) from some previous abuse and neglect of sitting for over a year. It seems to be a solid car and much better than the Cordia which is just a junky old car. I do like the regen in the Cordia, so I am keeping the Zapi H2 controller. I'm not in love with the Zivan K2 charger. It seems hard to adjust, but not impossible. I have adjusted the current, but not the voltage level. It's not like a Russco or PFC-20 with clear knobs. I think if I can get it properly adjusted it will will work well in the Celica. I really liked the PFC-20 in one of my my old S-10's, but I also like the Delta-Q's from the Bug. Back to the Celica, I'd like to use it as a daily driver for about 14 miles a day. I think I can do that with the T1275's, even in Atlanta winter.
If you are wondering why I got rid of the bug / Lithium pack with 100 mile range, it is hard to build a venelated temperature controlled battery box that doesn't leak in water in a 74 Bug. I had a lot of problems with water ingress and I was afraid it would ruin the pack, BMS, charger, etc. So, I parted it out and got a 2011 Leaf early 2012. My wife drives the Leaf which is why I replaced it with a basic lead acid car (Cordia) for me to drive that I got off e-bay. It turned out to be not so cheap after everything I had to fix. I'm sure even parting it out I will lose money on that car. So, I went e-bay shopping again and got the Celica to replace the Cordia, leaving me with a need for another new battery pack. I also found a really nice Escort (actually 2 of them, one West Coast, one East Coast) that I considered and still do consider better than the Celica. Celica is nice, but the back seat is really small, not at all like my 4 door Escort or Solectria Force. I think the Escort was probably the best combination of space, range, cost, and number / type of batteries of all 13 EVs I have owned. Could have bought another one just like it, but got the Celica instead because it was also a decent car, close by, and priced right for the condition it was in. Quite expensive to ship a non-running EV coast to coast, even though I have done it several times in the past (for the right car). Any further thoughts on the Crown CR-GC150 vs Trojan T-1275Plus? Or, should I have got yet a different car or change this car to be say 15-16 Trojan T875's (like my Festiva when I got it). Battery choices are not easy no matter how many other similar cars you compare yours to. I've been burned a few times on battery packs that just didn't hold up. That's why I don't buy cheap batteries any more. Crown are almost as much as Trojan and some people say they are better. I can tell you for sure I'll never buy anything from Johnson Controlls no matter what. I got ripped off on two battery packs from them that never did what the specs said. One flooded (GC2), one AGM (optimas). Never again, which is why I am being so careful this time before I put the money on the table. -- View this message in context: http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Cycle-life-T-875-Interstate-Workaholic-8V-or-T1275-12V-tp4664720p4664741.html Sent from the Electric Vehicle Discussion List mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org For EV drag racing discussion, please use NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA)
