Dennis, You can eliminate the float because the 210v charger does just that. It shuts off and the 216v charger continues to charge till 216v and then floats. I have used these now for three years and have not had any issues with the cells. They are really balanced all the time. I have not heard from anyone besides Jack Recard (sp) to not float the lithium's. I have read at times of folks that have adjusted the chargers themselves. It seems it has to be done with the cover off and LIVE. Everything in these chargers are HOT. So be very careful. I went to a blog on adjusting Zivan chargers and found the pots for voltage and current I believe. I have not done any adjusting. You can only go so far. If you let Greg know that is how you want it he will do that for you. The ending voltage seems to be the issue, if you only tell him how many cells you have. Most people I have talked to or read about say the voltage he determines is too high. So they have started to tell him they have one less cell than they do. Or add an extra cell to their pack. Much more work than to just tell him one less. Al

Al; Thanks for the reply. The problem I see is the float stage. I've heard that you should not float these lithium's, but shut down the charger when the current gets to ~ .05C. Phase 1 should charge to 3.5 - 3.6V, and then Phase 2 should hold the voltage, and taper the current. Looks like you're right there with the voltage. Do you know where your current is at when you switch to the float stage ? I have a Zivan NG5, and I may attempt to readjust this myself, if I could get some guidance. Anyone on the list have any experience adjusting these Zivan chargers, and do you know if you can eliminate the float stage ? Good morning Dennis, Thanks for the nice words. I sent both the Zivans into Greg at Zivan. I did not pull any punches and should have told him I had one less cell than I do. Honesty sometimes gets in the way. For what ever reason they just won't set them up the way we want. I run them in parallel and one goes off at 210vdc and the other goes off at 216vdc and does the float. At the moment I have the 216v charger not working and need to see why. Hopefully I answered your question. On a side note the DKW is for sale. So if you know anyone interested it will be going on Bring a Trailer in the near future. Al; Just checked out your site. Nice car and a first class restoration and conversion. Real head turner, and looks like a fun vehicle to drive. Can I ask how you got your Zivan to work with the Lithiums ? Good afternoon Nathan, That is not exactly true. I am running a 200v system and works very well. I had this exact problem and discovered that the controller was programmed at the factory with a 250V minimum voltage. Use the software to lower that for your 164V pack and see if that solves it. (That said, the only folks on evalbum that seem pleased with their Azure setups seem to be those running at 250V+.) n _______________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org For EV drag racing discussion, please use NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
