No chance would I even think to attempt to build such a gizmo. Linemen have a
bad enough job already without worrying about idiots like me -- and, around
here, they're frankly amazing. We get lots of city-scale thunderstorms here,
especially this time of year, and yet the power basically never goes out. When
it does, a *long* outage is an hour. They're out there in the pouring rain and
blowing wind, fixing wires with an ungodly amount of power flowing through
them, and they make it look easy.

Anything I put in would either be approved by the utility for direct grid tie
same as the PV inverter -- and, by, "approved," I mean they come out and
inspect it and sign off on it, same as they did for the PV system -- or I'd
turn off the main breakers on both the meter and the panel before even
physically connecting the gizmo. And put giant neon warning labels up and tape
across the breakers.

I'd still be interested in such a system -- assuming, of course, there's a
graceful way to get the power back out of the car's battery....
