To expand on the US Electricar with NiMH, I know of 2 USE trucks that were converted by their owners with BB-600 cells to get the lower weight and better range of NiCd (flooded) cells and I know of a few experiments with using Classic Prius NiMH packs to power the vehicle, but that only showed the problem that NiMH has with parallel charging, so I know of no USE vehicles that have NiMH installed.
I myself had to sell my US Electricar truck back in 2008 and I have tried to trace it back for a while, only to finally get a phone call from the East coast that the truck was still in my name, many years later, but was now being registered to the 2nd or 3rd owner since I sold it and he asked for some info about my truck, since it was a rather unique vehicle, the first road legal V2G implementation that I know of since its commissioning to PG&E in 1995. I see an old evdl nabble post http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Re-RAV4-EV-1st-Gen-Rav4-EV-suspension-and-aerodynamic-mods-td4672356.html with your name on it from 2014. Here are some links I found for you to explore: http://ev.com/nimh-ev-batteries-held-hostage-until-2014/ This page gives a good explaination of the history on NiMH availablity. https://pairlist5.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/rav4-ev This is the RAV4-EV discussion list which discusses gen1&2 topics. It is possible they have already found a pack replacement solution they could share with you. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ranger-ev/info This Ranger EV group may also have a solution because they also used a NiMH pack. Many years ago Kitty Rodden who at the time worked for Trojan Battery, was also part of the Women's EV Racing Team. Long before the production EVs of today, she raced her Porsche EV conversion (which blew the doors off the guy's EVs back then). Later she formed an EV Battery business, Battery M.D., and also another business, Blue Sky Motors, that sold Ranger EVs that she refurb'ed. http://www.zoominfo.com/p/Kit-Rodden/805355777 Today, the Battery M.D. web site http://www.batterymd.com/contact.html says they offer RAV4-EV parts. Perhaps she can offer a refurb'd pack, or refurb yours (?). Cor had (or may still have) an U.S. Electric Car EV. USE came very close to being a long-term sucessful EV company back when automakers were whining to CA's CARB saying it can't be done, until a person purposely got themselves planted in USE's upper management and destroyed it from the inside (Oil and Auto companies could not have done a better job of killing that company, or was it them that got him in there?). USE EVs also had a NiMH pack, so hoping Cor has his ears on (for corrections to the above, and ) so he can post the USE discussion group URL as they may have a pack replacement solution as well. In looking at the evdl.org nabble archive, a dated post mentioned Evaira battery company as battery source. https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=%22Evaira.com%22+NiMH http://www.evaira.com/pdf/ES120N.pdf (I am not sure if this is a viable source) The only other solution I came up with is a lot more work and may not have the kWh capacity for NiMH pack that you seek by using many small format NiMH cells: http://www.batteryjunction.com/12v10nibapaf.html?gclid=CPvR86Ttg8YCFZGHaQodw2sAiA http://www.batteryjunction.com/batt-packs.html http://www.tenergy.com/Power-Design-Category http://www.tenergy.com/11449?sc=59&category=38220 http://www.tenergy.com/Site/14-4V-NiMH-NiCd-Battery-Packs http://eu.industrial.panasonic.com/products/batteries-energy-products/secondary-batteries-rechargeable-batteries/nickel-metal-hydride/series/infrastructure-type/ACG4008?reset=1 It is unlikely Panasonic still offers NiMH cells that would work for you, but above is a link to explore and perhaps ask them.
