Certainly not true in my case. If I drive my leaf on a highway at
50mph, I get 4 miles/kWh in nice weather. City is about 2.5 - 3.
Almost all my driving is city.
I think the culprit is the efficiency losses of acceleration and regen.
No matter how well they work and how carefully I drive, it's still
lossier than a steady speed on a reasonably flat highway.
If you are driving on suburban "city" streets, that's more like highway
driving but lower speeds and less frequent stop and go (than urban
city). It is probable that you would exceed the highway numbers in that
case.

Interesting. Every other EV I know of (including conversions) gets
markedly
better range in city driving than on the highway. Is the Tesla S so
aerodynamic that its friction losses are higher than its aero losses?
Or is
it just wasting more energy than other EVs when it's "idling"?
