Mark,
Sure - nobody contests the 60 MPH avg over 24 hours,
that is indeed a sacrificial pace, requiring high speed driving
and short stops and lots of non-busy freeway between refill points.
I have only managed once to get a 72 MPH avg over 5 hours
by simply driving I5 for 5 hours straight at 72 MPH. Obviously the first
stop or the first diversion to a non-freeway will immediately put a dent
into such an average.

The issue here is that the record is claimed to be an EV record,
while it was set using a series-hybrid car: a Hydrogen generator
that creates electricity and powers the electric drivetrain.
Calling that an EV is a stretch of the truth because it really is
a hybrid, just like the diesel-electric trains that run on tracks
without catenary or third rail or other electric feed.

There are many more issues here, ranging from the inability to refuel
unless you happen to live in a few small spots, via the *increase* in
pollution that will be caused by the switch from gasoline cars to
hydrogen, since the hydrogen vehicle is less energy efficient and thus
consumes more primary energy (natural gas mostly at this point) and thus
CO2 emissions will *rise* with the switch from ICE to Hydrogen, in
contrast to the switch from ICE to BEV. And it will likely be impossible
to park the hydrogen car in a garage or underground parking structure,
seeing how ridiculously strict the legal requirements on parking of
CNG/LPG vehicles are, I expect that Hydrogen will get an even stricter
treatment if the laws use any logic.
But that will probably follow when the hydrogen vehicles get any market
share, at this moment it is only a handful prototypes, no matter what
the proponents like to call them.

Enough energy wasted on discussing Hydrogen already, let's bury the dead
horse.

That's a difficult accomplishment even in a non-EV!

About a year ago, I covered about 1500 miles in about 35 hours in my
Tesla. One driver. I napped during charges. I did some slow driving
when I mis-estimated my energy needs for a couple of legs. I believe an

average of about 60 mph is possible with only moderately illegal
speeds. Two drivers would make things go more smoothly. And a
navigator to avoid energy estimation blunders.
