Mark, I'm fully aware of how the systems work. That isn't the issue. The issue I have is calling a FCV an EV when it never fuels by plugging into a wall outlet or other EVSE. Claiming a diesel-electric locomotive is not an EV because it uses combustion and the Mirai is an EV because it doesn't use combustion is disingenuous at best. This record you refer to is not an EV record it is a FCV record. The average person doesn't look at a vehicle with some subsystem in he drivetrain that is electric and call it an EV. With your definition all I would have to do is build a series hybrid that runs on anything I want for fuel and as long as the final drive system is electric only it would be called an EV. Given that, this so called EV record is really not a record at all.
