My guess is that this is more "alarmist" than "news". New buildings are built all the time. Especially in Germany, you can't help building over something that was already there. But something always gets worked out.

Maybe they'll pick another site (though *something* will still be there, no matter what site they pick). So more likely, they'll plant a forest somewhere else to offset the trees that get cut down. Just like the US, there are plenty of ruined industrial areas that used to be forests that were never recovered when the former company moved on.
