I have the same problem, George. The automakers seem to be focused on cheap little cars, or luxury vehicles unsuited for hauling.

I've been driving EVs since the 1970's. Of course I had to do my own conversions, as there were basically none available otherwise! I always converted trucks and vans, because they had the load-carrying capacity, and enough cargo capacity to make them practical vehicles for me.

You could do the same, if you're so inclined! John Lussmyer has a Ford F-350 EV conversion; he's on this list. It's easier than ever, because there are so many better batteries and EV components that can be "harvested" from auto company EVs.

It doesn't have to be expensive, either. You can spend as much, or as little as you like. It all depends on whether you're aiming for a $50,000 or a $5000 car. I've converted an old pickp truck into an EV for about $1000, and an old postal van for about $2000.

The hardest part of the job is just deciding to do it!
