It's absolutely true that the oversized spoked alloy wheels fitted to modern
cars are suboptimal for efficiency, both for weight and aero reasons.

Simple steel wheels with smooth hubcaps would be better.

Better yet would be shrouded wheels, a la GM EV1 and the original Honda
Insight.

Good luck with either one.  They're not macho enough.

I can't find the equivalent page now, but for the 2019 Zoe, Renault had a
comprehensive webpage giving real world estimated range for various
configurations of the car.  One of the factors one could change was the
wheel size - 15" or 16".  Changing to the larger wheels caused a small loss
of predicted range - 10-15km, if memory serves.

Dumb idea.

While I'm at it, I think I'll also rail about the non-functional, wind-
catcing fins, grills, and complex sculptures added to make the front ends of
recent vehicles look aggressive and angry.  (Kind of like the people who buy
them.)

By and large, vehicle "design" (styling) aims for the amygdala, not the
anterior cingulate cortex.  That's one thing wrong with vehicle design.
