Last year in the USA, refineries purchased 41,140 MILLION kwhs of electricity from the grid. Thats enough to power approx 9.6 million electric vehicles for 15,000 miles each.
In addition they purchased 940 billion cubic feet of Natural Gas. Thats enough to power an additional 220 million EVs for 15,000 miles each (if used in NG Power plants) https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pnp_capfuel_dcu_nus_a.htm THey also purchase steam which could be used to run turbines and power additional EVs. This doesn't even consider the electricity/energy used to extract the petroleum from the ground, move the petroleum around or power the gas stations. Plus I've seen adds from fossil fuel companies that state that we use MORE energy searching for new fossil fuel reserves than the get from those new reserves.
