But yes, Lithium is almost always the better choice, even with the added BMS complexity.
2) Do you know how much current you were drawing when cruising down the road? For my F250, I use around 30KW, for an S10, it will probably be more like 15KW.
Agreed, my estimate would be a 10kw genset minimum to maintain charge in city/county driving, and 15-30 kw for freeway driving in an S-10.
Don't use a cheap genset - you'll be polluting as much as a Semi tractor.
Perhaps a propane generator? But that does remove the advantage of easy /abundant fueling stops....
