Pardon my language, but this idea as stated is lunacy.  Carrying a Genset
to try to drive the truck is crazy.  Have you looked at the size of a 25 kW
generator?  It usually comes witha a trailer or truck to move it.  On the
other hand, carrying a 5 kW genset to "charge" the battery while parked
could make sense as a way to double your mileage by charging for the trip
home.  But then you would be running it for hours.

For reference, the capacity of the generator in a Prius is 50 kW (peak
power).  Of course this is instantaneous.  To cruise down the road might
take 20 kW.  Make it 10 kW and then you can drive with a 50/50 duty cycle
and you are starting to look like a hybrid.  Good for in-town driving where
there are equal stops for every go.  But to cruise down the highway at
constant speed for hours at a time is a HUGE generator.

So better to invest in lithium batteries to cut the driving load (weight).
