Why must nickel be used? Copper is a much better conductor.
"Power" has little to do with it. The word I think you're looking for is
"ampacity." And that is a trade-off between acceptable temperature rise (power
dissipation) and acceptable voltage drop. And either of those will change with
length, as well.
That said, perhaps this will be helpful. It implies that the ampacity of nickel
is about 0.43 that of copper.
