Musk has reasons to promote Full Self-Driving. The $10,000 option is a balm to Tesla’s revenues and profits, although just how much is unclear: The company doesn’t break out FSD sales. Musk has been selling buyers on the idea that with autonomous technology, Tesla vehicles will appreciate in value.

I've bought three Teslas with the "FSD" option. Average price of the option, about $5k. I'm pleased to have supported the effort. Already, the $5k looks like a bargain. I predict $10k will look like a bargain in a year or so. However, that $10k price will not likely be available in a year.

I am extremely pleased with current functionality. I'm hope to get the reportedly vastly improved "beta" in a few weeks. I've watched with enthusiasm for years as progress has been made. Receiving updates every month or so. Right now, it well navigates on freeways, following a navigation route. Following or passing traffic. Getting in proper lanes. Moving from one freeway to another. Off freeway, it reliably stops for stop signs and signal lights. It follows slower traffic. On freeways, it passes if the driver desires. It safely changes lanes when the driver indicates. My main complaint is that it doesn't slow early enough for signals or other hazards for my taste. Right now, you have at least 50% less probability of an accident if you are using AP/FSD.

Over two years ago, with far more primitive software, I allowed my car to drive itself from near the Lake Charles Louisiana SuperCharger through downtown Houston to near the Columbus Texas SuperCharger. That's pretty close to the car's range. Completely on it's own. Of course, it was stressful since I had incomplete confidence and I was ready to take over at any instant. My confidence has vastly improved since.

The many FSD naysayers are highly likely to have had little to no experience.
