To me the most important global problems are the fact that even now people are starving and suffering diseases that could easily be cured. But climate change is on the watch list, because it allegedly can hit a tipping point and go pear shaped rather fast (due to positive feedback) if we're not careful. And environmental issues are important generally for various reasons, including the fact that burning up irreplaceable resources is non-sustainable. So I'd say that attempts to reduce emissions are good for all sorts of reasons, and if people being scared of climate change helps drive that, it's probably a good thing, so long as it doesn't lead to the Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism.
