Technology confounds me for its so hard to seemingly determine which technology 
lays fallow for decades and then emerges, seemingly, out of no where. We're 
still working on fuel cells for everyone, a concept dating from 1839! 
Desalinization works commercially, or does it? Solar power and fusion?? Two 
techs that emerged from the dark past are cell phones (mobiles in the land o' 
Kiwi), and 3D printing, which came from no where and is now going everywhere. I 
wonder what it takes to ignite?

Unfortunately air travel is the only way to get around NZ that doesn't involve 
a LOT of driving or a very, very slow train journey.
