There is nothing in anarcho-capitalism that precludes the existence of
self-defence forces. They would probably just be at least an order of
magnitude cheaper, because anyone wishing to provide that service would
face competition in the free market.

Democracy didn't work in Syria or Somalia either. Obviously the success of
a system depends largely on the population, it's behaviours, culture and
beliefs.
