Oh, here's what I was lookiing for. ISTM, that whether the universe is open or closed, defined by whether it will expand forever or eventually contract under the influence of gravity, there is no enclosing hyperspace. If so, why then do you address only a closed universe in reaching your conclusion? Does the ADM formulation ASSUME the total energy of the universe is zero?
