Your brain constructs the "place" of which you are conscious from
various sensory inputs and memory. That's how you can be conscious of
Tatooine or sailing on the Pequod.
For thousands of years people didn't even know that the brain had
anything to do with thinking, the ancient Egyptian's carefully
preserved every part of the body EXCEPT for the brain which they just
threw away. If consciousness can even be saidto occupy a place in
space, and I don't think it can, then it would be the place you were
thinking about, not the place where 3 pounds of gray Jell-O is located.
It seems you're just trying avoid making the distinction between the
source of your consciousness and the content, that of which you are
thinking. Why try to mush to two concepts into "the location" of your
consciousness?
