Republicans are upset because scientists don't behave the same way that politicians do. When new information becomes available a good scientist is capable of admitting he is wrong and changing his worldview, even radically, but a right wing politician never lets new facts have any effect whatsoever upon his opinions, probably because facts had nothing to do with him forming those opinions in the first place.
