Nope, same problem. And that sure won't help, as the newline has to be
between text and sig.
What is the paragraph style of the last lines, including sig? Try
'normal' instead of 'preformat' for the empty newlines.

It seems, as the additional newlines are at the newline in the sig file.
That means, <pre> is interpreted even inside the <table>. That would be
a bug in gtkhtml.
Try the following code, without the <br> tags, instead using <pre>. That
takes newline characters for breaking lines and will prevent additional
<pre> tags from messing with the code.
