Try it with all your code on just one(!) line, including the <br> tags.
So there is no chance to insert a newline... ;-)
Strange thing: There are 6(!) newlines before the 'Lane' and inside(!)
the signature displayed.
That really is a bug in displaying your signature by gtkhtml. How does
it look in other email clients?
