Are you getting this 220****** blah, blah, blah when you are telnetting to
your own Exchange server or to some other mail server?

220************************ thing is a standard response of some other
(non-Exchange) mail servers.

Subject: Exchange Server Response to Telnet

We have our Exchange 2003 Server up and running. It sends and receives email
both internally and externally just fine. However, during testing the SMTP
server via telnet, while I am able to send a message, the initial response
to the telnet request is garbled.

The telnet request is:

telnet ourserver 25

The response is

220*********************************************0****0*0
**********************200***0*2**0*00

After that everything works fine.

Does anyone have any idea why it does this or if it will cause a problem in
the future?

Thanks,

Michele Cooper
