Maybe they were talking about mailbox-level (brick-level backup) which I think would be even slower with the AV checking the messages as they are getting backed up.

I will be testing on our test Exchange 2003 server today, but that has very little data to back up compared to our production systems. Anybody run into this situation at all? Thanks in advance, colleagues. ==================================== Larry Wahlers, Systems Specialist Concordia Technologies The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod Hello, I am running Exchange 2003 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition with Symantec Mail Security for Exchange version 4.5 and I'm wondering why it is best practice to disable VSAPI before backing up with Veritas Backup Exec 9.1, as described here: http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-gate.nsf/867d714c2380e18588256e4a00 5c3cf0/cbc31c51357032c688256ea2007775e8?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam I've run regular Exchange backups on our test server with ntbackup and all's well. I'd like to install SMSMSE on our production Exchange 2003 server, which uses Backup Exec for backups. We are not doing brick-level mailbox backups. Is there a known problem in running backup jobs while VSAPI 2.5 is running? If so, why not just disable the Symantec service instead, rather than going through the registry hack? Thanks for your assistance! ==================================== Larry Wahlers, Systems Specialist Concordia Technologies The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=exchange To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp.
