You can boot from SAN. Then all you have to do in a failure is move the
fibers to the new box and configure the adaptors' addresses. You might be
able to be back up faster than a cluster failover!

Thank you for all of your advice.
I am using good hardware, raid etc.
Basically, I am not look for Auto failover at this time, I am aware of
double take and Failover, I am basically building a box that I can simply
copy the store to, (It is backed up every 12 hours) and put into
production.(Understanding of course that I will need to make the requisite
network and naming changes.

Exchange doesn't support a hot failover server out of the box unless you are
clustering.
As someone else mentioned you could have a second server and it may have the
GAL on it and PF replication, but your mailboxes wont be there and if the
first server fails, the users are not going to fall over to the secondary
server. Pretty much a waste IMHO.
There are some 3rd party programs out there such as DoubleTake that
apparently some folks are using. Not me though.

If I can offer you one piece of advise, it would be to make sure you use
quality hardware. Have a good RAID card and configure your drives for
redundancy.

Subject: secondary Exchange sever

Hey there...

Exch2000 Ent on Win2000 Svr fully spacked

Ok, I am willing to admit that, maybe JUST maybe, I am a [EMAIL PROTECTED]
but...

I am trying to create a "Backup Exchange serve in the the event of
catastrophe.
I have build the second one and attached it to the domain, it have a
different name and a different IP.
When attempting to connect to it via the outlook client ON the secondary
server, The email server name in the exchange server reverts to my primary
server.

What am I doing wrong here.

Please be kind with the flames as I slipped into a puddle of gasoline
earlier and have not had time to clean up.

Thank you.
