That's not the best written article I've seen...  The problem he's
resolving is called backscatter FWIW. The change pushes responsibility
for generating NDRs back on the sending MTA, which in general is a good
thing. The only place this might cause problems is if you have a gateway
box doing pre-filtering as it would now be responsible for generating
the NDRs (so you've just pushed the problem back one hop). Recipient
verification should take place at the perimeter of your messaging
network. Assuming Exchange is the perimeter of your network, this is
generally a good practice to implement. If you're not logging your SMTP
protocol conversations now (shame on you), you should if you implement
this change as it will be the only record of misaddressed inbound
messages once the change takes effect.
