You can go wrong doing it that way because the SAN infrastructure is vastly more expensive than comparable DAS!

YMMV Exchange Enterprise 2003 Local raid group split up into two partitions. One for the op system One for logs, etc. of the Exchange system EMC had the main databases (5 of them) on one of its raid groups. We have 7 drives in that raid group. Used Raid 5 on the EMC. Works fine for us, 160 mail boxes averaging between 50 meg and 10 gig per box. Been up for about 1.5 years now. No issues as far as we have seen.
