You can go wrong doing it that way because the SAN infrastructure is vastly
more expensive than comparable DAS!

Subject: RE: EMC as data store for Exchange?

Thanks Alan, we are using 160 mailboxes with up to 1GB per mailbox on DAS, I
was looking to replicate our current raid setup for the server to the SAN,
more looking to use the SAN for DR reasons etc than for storage
consolidation.

I hear people going on about exchange vs SAN vs performance, but as I
thought "build it as you would on DAS and you can't go wrong" is the first
rule to apply.

YMMV
Exchange Enterprise 2003
Local raid group split up into two partitions.
One for the op system
One for logs, etc. of the Exchange system

EMC had the main databases (5 of them) on one of its raid groups. We have 7
drives in that raid group. Used Raid 5 on the EMC.

Works fine for us, 160 mail boxes averaging between 50 meg and 10 gig per
box.

Been up for about 1.5 years now. No issues as far as we have seen.

Only other thing the Exchange server runs is AVG against the system and the
stores thru the api.
